Smart Governance

With predictions by the UN State of World Cities stating that 60% of the population of the world will be living in cities by 2050 – much higher than those in rural areas, it is very important to ensure that a city’s resources and assets are managed and governed efficiently and productively. Smart governance is actually one of the most important facets of a smart city without which it wouldn’t be able to function. It is actually very closely linked to a smart economy, as achieving a smart economy is the primary objective of smart governance. It basically means that the governing bodies and entities of a city need to have a smart vision for the future and implement suitable and fitting policies accordingly. But becoming a smart city is a never ending endeavour. These cities don’t only have simple and specific long term objectives in mind, as once they achieve these targets, they look for other ways to improve. The policies implemented by the governing bodies constantly strive to achieve higher and higher levels of sustainability, productivity and efficiency in the economy. This promotion of entrepreneurship and development of cities has generated a lot of excitement among the business minded youth of who are tired of living in ‘old-fashioned’ environments.

Smart governance doesn’t only mean looking at the long term solutions for the development of our cities and the economy, it also means doing this as efficiently as possible. This means minimizing all the useless paperwork clutter, time & resource consumption and logistics – getting rid of the middle men.
